There’s no lack of opportunities for adding barbecue sauce to your favorite dishes. So, why not skip the added sugars and preservatives and whip up your own homemade BBQ Sauce that will impress your family and friends?
Homemade BBQ Sauce
Ingredients (makes about 1 cup)
½ cup apple juice
¼ cup tomato paste
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1 tablespoon tamari
1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1 teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon chili powder (double if you like it spicier)
½ teaspoon sea salt
½ teaspoon arrowroot powder dissolved in ½ teaspoon of water
Whisk all ingredients together except the arrowroot dissolved in water. Bring mixture to a boil.
Reduce to simmer and add dissolved arrowroot. Continue to stir until sauce thickens. Remove from heat. Cool completely. Serve with favorite grilled fixin’s.
